Grandma would be delighted. So am I. 😊
So elegant
Where did you get that wood for table top? Amazing. I have a piece or two maybe 16 inch wide of oak
You made the right call, looks so nice
Beautiful!
You should start a technical school to teach this.
Thank you for allowing the vanity to maintain her graceful age, character and beauty. She looks just lovely! ❤❤❤😊
Just an amazing restoration ❤🎉
WOW - Very nice
You sat at your grandmother's vanity and sniffed it? 😆😆 Excellent work
Were you using wackywood or kerfed pieces for clamping? What I most enjoy about Tom's videos, is that there are never new fancy tools, gadgets or gizmos. Just skill and ability to use the normal tools properly. An artist and tradesman! Bravo Tom.
You are doing yourself a Dis-Service Sir, Saying, " I Think it Looks Pretty ??? Good ???" It looks Absolutely Great !!! And I love the Bees Wax Finish, Wasn't too sure at first , I am not one for Glossy Finishes, But after the wool sanding and Bees Wax, As Tony The Tiger Would Say, " It's Great !!!!! " Could only give you the 1 thumbs up for the Video, But it's Really Times 10
You did a great job on restoring that funky looking glass frame.
Mr Johnson you are most definitely the master of furniture work. Grandma (someone's grandma 😊) would be very pleased with how beautiful the dressing table is now. I love that you try to keep the original look. Personally I think like you about that! Your videos are amazing as your work is! Thank you for sharing your talents with us! Fabulous job!😊❤
Great job as always. Tom. I’m interested in your thoughts as to why you find so much veneer chip out on this piece.
Great job Tom and always love your knowledge! You have taught me allot.
Had one of those growing up! Nice work.
I use wood hardner. It worked great on a door I refinished just like this.
Yet another understated, beautiful restoration from a true master of his craft. "I think it looks quite good, too" .
This make me be more precise. Always enjoyable. My grandma had painted furniture and never had much money. She would have thought she was rich with that.
Polyacrylic can be thined with 15% water and sprayed in your paint sprayer. Thanks for the video.
I am so glad you got this piece. You did an amazing job, as usual.
I'm a Grandma, and I approve of this beautiful work. It's a rare woodworker who spends his days with the chicks like you do- much nicer than most background music, for sure.
How were you able to level up the legs and take out the wobble?
Totally agree with your philosophy on refinishing. i heard so many stories of truly valuable antiques, as well as just beautiful younger pieces being strip bathed for a 2 - 3 inch stain on the top that made my heart drop ! This here vanity is a great example of just softly given "touch ups" to give the overall look, one of refreshness & renewal. Another beautiful job ❣
I so enjoyed this video. I have a rope bed that needs repair but probably doesn’t need a complete refinish. I’ll tackle it someday armed with the information you provided. Fortunately it’s solid wood and no veneer replacement will be required.
I wondered how you were going to glue those curved drawer fronts.....but you always have a plan and the clamps to do it! Wonderful restoration! What was the little animal in the last part of the video?
That was amazing. I love hearing you explain why you make the choices for the piece. You really restored the vanity and will surely be loved for years to come.
I am amazed to have watched a master craftsman and expert teacher all in one ! Well done !
This is such a pretty little piece and it has come up very nice. So enjoyable to watch you work and pick up some tips.
At what point does an 'original ' design become a 'reproduction '? The 2nd one built? Or after 5? Or does it become a reproduction after a hundred years? Or after the designer kicks the bucket? Does the term reproduction automatically make it of le$$er value. Dumb question probably but it's bothered me for years and there must be an answer. Right? My lovely antique bedroom $et was 'appraised with a sneer as a reproduction. (Quality work and duplicate wood) It hadn't been made by the original N.Y. company but by a N,Y. company at the same time......Well, that answered part of the question....I think. What's your thought? Loved this episode's bird song accompaniment 😊
I wish Tom was my age so I could watch his videos for the rest of my life. Great work once again!
Great transformation again! ❤ XXX
You are the definition of the term Master Craftsman.
I could watch just a video of the multiple methods of clamping you do ! Great video.
I’ve been watching your videos for about 10 years, I love your channel. It makes me want to try.
Good call, TJ ! I agree with your choices here. The final result speaks for itself. The saw tool you used when cutting the 2 ply veneer is very interesting. It looks japanese? Great video, thank you. ❤
I love your approach to restoration opposed to refinishing…probably because I’ve been an old soul since birth and my Grandma & Grandpa were my best friends! I grew up surrounded by their wonderful furniture each time I visited and was blessed to receive it upon their passing far too soon for my heart. I’ve left every scratch and stain but watching how beautifully you restore these pieces makes me think twice. Thank you so much for sharing videos of your talent with us!
Tom, you never cease to amaze me with how you patch veneer and make it blend seamlessly! Good advice about not necessarily stripping and refinishing. You gave it new life! As always it is "preety good". I expect nothing less from your skills. On a side note though ... Are you sure you have enough clamps? You might wanna look into that. 😎
So beautiful now.
I noticed that you didn't use a block on the large flat surfaces why?
You know Tom, it may not be an antique, but it is a solid piece of furniture with dovetailed drawers (albeit machined) and much better than the 'stuff' we get today.
You are the master of your trade
Thomas, you are the Sultan of Scraping, the Viceroy of Veneering and the Duke of Drawer Repair!
6:00 I recently watched one of your old videos where you said you were using for the first time a new hide glue named Old Brown. Now it is almost comical listening to you saying that you weren't all that convinced that a premixed glue would work as well al the old-fashioned formula you were using 😀
What was the animal at the end? A gopher? Do they have those in Maine?
Mr Thomas, sir, I've got a question considering the second drawer: wouldn't it be easier to just patch the minor pieces of missing veneer with little triangles rather than to substitute a much larger part?
look like grandma's vanity, just beautiful--exactly!
That is a lovely piece.
